Michigan man is arrested for possession of cannabis
According to a statement released Wednesday, the Illinois State Police District 17 police were conducting routine patrols at about 12:26 p.m. Feb. 17 on Interstate 80, eastbound near Mile Marker 72, when a vehicle was observed following too closely.
During a conversation with the driver, the trooper detected the odor of cannabis in the vehicle. The driver, Kenneth W. Brown, 41, of Detroit, Mich., admitted to possessing cannabis in the vehicle.
A probable cause search was conducted and about 16.5 pounds of suspected cannabis was located in the rear cargo area of the vehicle. Brown was then charged with possession of cannabis with intent to deliver.
“This arrest is an example of how our troopers respond to routine traffic patrols and uncover illegal and criminal activity,” said District 17 Interim Commander Lt. Robert Atherton. “It illustrates good police instincts.”
