Tuesday night sports update
GRANVILLE - Princeton's bid for a regional repeat turned into regional revenge for St. Bede.
The Bruins knocked out the Tigers 71-60 in the quarterfinals of the Putnam County 2A regional boys basketball tournament. PHS beat the Bruins a year ago in regional play.
Jacob Fisher led all scorers with 28 points for the Tigers (14-14). Damin Smith scored eight of his team-15 points for the Bruins. Joe Pyszka added 14 points and Brad Groleau 13 for St. Bede.
The host PC Panthers, despite 34 points from senior Jake Sale, fell to El-Paso-Gridley in the nightcap 62-51. EPG and St. Bede (22-7) will meet in Thursday's semifinals.
The regional resumes Wednesday with top-seeded Fieldcrest facing Eureka at 7:30 p.m.
At Somonauk, the host Bobcats beat Amboy 47-43.
