PIT produces nine 1A champions

CHAMPAIGN — The Princeton Invitational produced nine IHSA Class 1 State wrestling champions Saturday in Champaign and six runners-up.

Included in the mix are three wrestlers for Princeton Regional champion Sterling Newman — Newman’s Maxx Hubbard (132), Brian Bahrs (152) and R.J. Troye (182). The Comets will wrestle Aledo Mercer County in Tuesday’s Team Dual Sectional at Oregon, seeking a berth to the state finals at Bloomington Friday.

Other 1A champions with ties to the PIT are Byron’s Nelson Baker (113), Dakota’s Josh Alber (120), Harvard’s Dan Stott (170) and Morrison’s Mark McDonnell (145) and Matt McDonnelll (195) and Byron’s Reid Sealby (285).

There were 31 place finishers overall who competed in the PIT.
